BUDDING ARTISTS BRUSH UP ON SKILLS
December 2008

Budding artists are being invited to brush up in their skills at special portfolio clinics in a bid to help aspiring students gain a step closer to joining The Glasgow School of Art.

Sponsored by Scottish law firm, Maxwell MacLaurin, the portfolio clinics will take place at the Coatbridge Community Centre in Coatbridge on Monday 15 December from 10am until 4pm and Harbour Arts Centre in Irvine on Tuesday 16 December from 6.30pm until 8pm

Led by Deborah Holland, a tutor with The Glasgow School of Art, the clinic is part of a series being held around the West of Scotland, designed to encourage and help potential students prepare and develop a portfolio of work to apply for a course at the School. They are open to students who have not gone through the usual route of preparing and applying while attending secondary school.

Peter Duff, Managing Partner, Maxwell MacLaurin said, “We’ve pledged £30,000 over the next three years and the results since we launched the clinics in the summer is terrific. Standards at The Glasgow School of Art are exceptional, which has made it a worldwide institution, however equally so the standards of the people attending the clinics has been fantastic. There is a huge untapped talent out there and if we can help some people realise their potential it will have been a great achievement”.

Further clinics are scheduled to take place in February 2009.

Further details on the clinics is available by emailing d.holland@gsa.ac.uk
